Telemark Skiing

I decided to try something different this winter. Telemark skiing has been the newest trend with the employees at the ski resort. Everybody is trying it, some liking it, some hating it. I have only been doing it for about a week. It's a real workout when done correctly. It's basically just a flexible boot and a detached heel that you kick back when you turn. You're doing one lunge after another. My thighs were burning after 2 runs. Well, I wanted a challenge. I guess I got it. The funny thing about learning how to "tele" ski is that it's easier when the terrain is steeper, a blue run instead of a green. Many people traverse up mountains and then ski down.
The gear can be incredibly expensive. I borrowed the skis and bindings from a friend and Tom found a pair of European telemark boots at the thrift store in Heber for $10. Can't beat that! I have plenty of time to practice and plenty of hills to practice on. The hardest part is not cheating and just doing alpine turns when it gets tiring.
The following video is NOT me... but it could be... in a few years! I still need the Norwegian sweater.

Healthy Calories vs. Enjoyable Calories

Sorry about the lapse in blog posts. I'm working on a new hobby at the moment, but need to get a little further into it before I can have an opinion on it. Instead, here is a deep thought by Donna (once again it has to do with food):

The other day at work, we were spinning a wheel for prizes. I won either a Snickers or a Powerbar. Of course, I chose the Snickers. I proceeded to have a discussion with a co-worker who chose the Powerbar. I've never been big into energy bars and always found them gross. He pointed out the long list of vitamins and minerals on the back of the wrapper. I simply said, "Well, which one tastes better?" He said that wasn't the point. Really? Can't I just have a vitamin pill and then a Snickers to give me the same benefit? How about a bowl of Cheerios and a Snickers. Better yet, a vitamin-fortified Snickers bar. I'd buy that! But... which one is better? What do people think? What would YOU rather have?
