Presidents Weekend

On Saturday, I was able to cross-country ski a trail I've been wanting to do for a long time: Beaver Creek!  It was so ideal:  early morning, fresh snow, tall mountains, no people, flat trail.  I was able to get Amber to go with me and we had a blast.  We're already planning out next time, where we're going to start, what we're going to do, etc.  We ended with donuts at the Chevron in Kamas.  How did I not know about these?  I lived up there for 4 years.  Go figure.

We stayed overnight at the cabin on Sunday night so we could have a full day of sledding on Monday.  My boys lasted about an hour... until cousins showed up.  Round 2!  It was weird to be at the cabin without Mom showing up.  She loved the cabin so much.  Now we all get to help Dad take care of it and make it last.  It gave me pause for thought, standing at the top of the sledding hill, staring back down at the property, looking at everything she had her hand in.  She had a vision for that place.  Hopefully it will stick around and we can have many more sledding parties!

Her Memorial

I can't believe how well this came together!  We had so many family and friends that came to show sympathy and share memories of mom.  It was so fun to set up the tables with things that she loved.  Sharon and I scavenged the house, looking for those perfect items that described mom so well:  chess boards, her piano lesson curriculum, power tools, ancestor books, cowboy boots, wooden crafts that she made, and so many pictures.  She didn't like having her picture taken, we had to dig deep.  All 9 of us shared memories during the service and it ended with Uncle Andy tying it all together and showing what an extraordinary lady she was.  We kept it under 90 minutes.  She would've appreciated that.  Afterwards we ate and visited with all those who came so far.  This is what she would've wanted: lots of family, lots of food, lots of memories!
