Spring Break: the rest of it

Spring Break in Moab
Brrrrr... it was a cold one.
Rats.
That's the gamble with Moab in March: if you hit it right, it can be beautiful. Good thing we rented a "camping cabin". I found it's the perfect hybrid of camping in the spring. Besides, they wanted so much for a tent site, it wasn't much more for the "4 walls + heat" option. We still had to bring sleeping bags and cook outside and use the community bathrooms, so we were still roughing it, in a way. We were able to figure out how to cook every meal on the provided gas grill and even piped propane over to our portable fire pit for s'mores.
We pulled into town at lunchtime on Saturday, in the middle of a rainstorm. We ate lunch under a pavilion and went straight to open-swim at the Moab Rec Center. It was a great way to kill 3 hours. I do remember from last time that the pool is kept a little cooler than what we're used to at Kamas pool. Just gotta keep moving I guess! The kids had a blast and burned a lot of energy. We then checked into our cabin, cooked hamburgers, and the kids were able to explore the campground when the rain let up.
On Sunday, we just took it easy, watched our zoom church sacrament meeting, and waited for the rain to let up again. We were able to finally venture out to Morning Glory Bridge. It's an amazing formation and definitely ranks with those in Arches!
Monday morning brought clear skies, finally! We headed to Arches EARLY! The kids were excited to be out in the slickrock and sunshine. We busted out Delicate Arch right away, and then headed to the easy ones up north. The kids favorite was Sand Box Arch, which isn't the real name, but very appropriate. We finished with the Windows area and headed back to camp. They opened the outdoor pool at the campground, but the heater was "broken" so most of us were crowded into the hot tub. We made some new friends and the kids kept daring each other to jump into the cold pool. Everyone did, eventually, and it was hilarious! We had so much fun, the boys went back to the pool after dinner for more polar-plunges.
We had to check out on Tuesday, which was just fine, considering the dark clouds returned. We were able to make it out to Dead Horse State Park and took in some amazing views! We wanted to drive out to Island in the Sky, but decided it wasn't worth the drive for about the same view. It was starting to rain anyway, so we ate lunch and raced the clouds north! It was nice to drive back in the daylight. I love that area of desert and can't wait to go back! So long, Moab. Thanks for the free propane!
