The Best of March

We started off the month wondering if the snow every go away? I understand a good snow pack in the mountains is essential for water through the summer months… but what about at our house? Why was there still 2 feet of snow in our yard? Even the kids were getting whiny about it, and they love the snow! I wasn’t complaining. I finally got out more on my skis and loved every minute of it, even when it was raining at Soldier Hollow. I did explore a fun place called Round Valley that is groomed nightly for cross country skiing. Did I mention it’s free?! Thanks to the generous tax payers of Park City, us poor Heber Valley residents only have to drive a short way up the hill to their groomed tundra. I did feel out of place for NOT skiing with a dog.

It snowed a lot on my birthday, which worked out well for skiing with Vanessa and Nora. Bevan got me some (used) powder skis for my birthday and I was able to finally try them out. I’ve been using the same heavy skis since…well… we got married! He knew I needed a change. How sweet. Poor Nora banged up her knee but she acted so tough and skied the rest of the day. I would’ve been crying. That night, Bevan had reservations for Seafood Buffet. It was annoying driving to Deer Valley twice in the same day, but it was so worth it! They brought back the BIG crab legs this time, and the roasted duck! Still no sushi or scallops, but maybe next year? I think I drank too much water during dinner, so I got full really fast, but then kept eating. Yes, I had trouble sleeping that night. It was still a great way to end my birthday!

After that, the snow started melting fast! Within 2 weeks, it was gone from our yard. We were able to go to the park without snow pants and boots for once! Is Spring really here for good?

The Best(ish) of February

Good riddance February!  Sure, it was nice and short, but I'm glad it's over.  I wasn't able to ski as much as I'd like (but when does that ever happen?).
I jumped the gun last month by saying Drew was potty-trained.  We've had a few setbacks, but he's starting to improve again.
We're still trudging over to Kamas at 7am every Saturday for swim lessons.  This has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in the off-season!  What was I thinking?  Saturday morning?!  I've now promised "large" prizes to anyone who finishes all their lessons, along with weekly bribes of donuts and chocolate milk.  It's been a tough sell, but they ARE improving!
All 4 kids got a nasty cold virus the end of February.  And we've been so lucky this winter with illnesses!  Anna's cold turned into a sinus infection, which caused her to miss 3 whole days of school, but she recouped enough for her 2nd grade program on Friday.  It was so adorable!
So what's next?  March!!!  Maybe the snow will melt someday and I can plant some flowers and veggies.  I have 5 weeks of off-season left to finish projects around the house.  Yikes!  Somebody needs to crack a whip on me... or maybe just buy me a donut for every project completed.
