Memorial Day

We might as well have one more party to kick off summer! The old play-set at the cabin needed to come down so mom planned a combined birthday party for dad/ memorial day/ play-set teardown. We had everybody there helping and the play-set came down in record time. Even the little kids had fun unscrewing screws from the boards.

We ate hamburgers, dutch oven potatoes, and “bunker hill” birthday cake. Our family decided to stay for the long weekend, and the kids were sad that cousins weren’t staying as well. We still had fun burning the play-set scraps in the fire pit and roasting s’mores. On Monday, we swam at the Kamas pool on our way out of town. It was a great way to get really clean from the long weekend. Bring on summer!

Dallin turns 8!

Dallin was completely on board planning his birthday party this year. I mean, last year was pretty amazing with the bouncy house and all his cousins, but this year, he really wanted a super-cool nerf gun party with all his friends.

We made it happen.

Shout out to amazon and their timely delivery of 1000 bullets and thanks to neighbor Sarah for recommending dumpster diving at appliance stores for huge boxes (to be used as battlements and forts). Finally, thanks to grandpa Chuck and his truck and hauling all the stuff to the park. We couldn’t have done it without him! We had a good turnout and the battle was fierce. It was a little windy, so the forts kept blowing over. Overall, they had a great time with only a few tears and hardly any blood. To encourage the boys to clean up in the end, I told them they could KEEP all the bullets they picked up. That really motivated some boys!

End of school!

This year flew by so fast! Is it really summer break already? I might cry. We are soooooo fortunate the kids were able to have a normal schedule this year. They were even able to stop wearing masks for the last 2 weeks. It was heaven!

The afternoon that school let out, a neighborhood in our area threw a block party with bouncy houses, pizza, and water games. I had to work, but Bevan took the kids, to join the hundreds of other kids. They got all wet and tired. Bevan partied with all the other moms, organizing babysitting trades to fuel his recent mountain biking obsession.

So what’s in store for summer? Dallin and Anna have a reading program in the mornings and friends in the afternoon. I’m sure there will be many pool visits (now that Tommy can handle a puddlejumper), trips to the library (but we all know that won’t happen as often as we’d like), and many slurpees, otterpops, and ice cream cones. I’ll still be working part time, but we found a great babysitter to come play twice a week. I’m sure she’ll be more popular than me.
