XC Ski Date

We need to soak up every bit of this snow while we have it! For “ski date Monday”, we decided to try something different. Bevan hasn’t cross-country skied in 20 years, so we went to the state park and rented a pair for him. We also lucked out that it was warm, sunny, and they just groomed the course 30 minutes before. It was super soft!

I don’t know why I’ve been hesitating about Bevan doing this with me. Maybe it’s because it’s the ONLY sport I’m better at? It’s MY thing! But then again, it’s Bevan. He’s naturally better at everything. And he was a natural at this. It took me about 5 minutes to realize this was a good thing! We kept the same pace, we could talk to each other, and he wanted to do the entire course. It was great!

We lunched at Lola’s and I probably consumed more calories than I burned. Rats. I can’t wait to go again with Bevan! He wants a set of his own skis and boots. There’s no end to the fun with this guy!

Pocatello

We had so much fun this trip with Vanessa and her family!  We ended up traveling up on Sunday, after church, which was super nice.  Even the kids remarked how much was different the trip was in the daylight.  We made it right in time for the big game: The Chiefs vs. Tom Brady.  Honestly, I didn't watch much of it this year.  So many other things going on.  The kids had a blast playing with new toys and with their cousins.

The next day, we finally skied Pebble Creek!  Sweet Macie stayed back with our kids and kept them occupied.  We had such a blast with Vanessa and her older kids.  I was amazed how much their skiing skills have improved.  I had a hard time keeping up.  I guess with a mountain like that, you have to improve fast!  There's one green "cat track" winding down through nothing but steep, natural blues and blacks.  It was exhausting, but so much fun!  For lunch we dined on fresh Idaho potato fries (with heavily-regulated fry sauce) and brownies.  I was amazing how cheap the food was, I guess, compared to Deer Valley.  But there were many things different from Deer Valley, and I liked it!  That night we soaked in "hot lava" with the kids.  I wouldn't call it relaxing...and contemplated leaving the kids with Macie again, but looking back, I'm glad we spent that time as a family.  We sure love Idaho!
