Why in the world would I want to run a half marathon?
Postpartum endorphins? Maybe.
Lose the baby weight? Getting warmer.
Peer pressure? Absolutely!
My friend, Cami, decided to get a "team" together for the Heber Half Marathon. I signed up Bevan too. It gave me something to train for, while not going overboard. I was lucky to run 3 nights a week. Sometimes it was only twice. When I say nights, I mean 8:30 or 9pm! Sometimes it's the ONLY time to do it! On Saturday mornings, a bunch of us ladies met up to do the "long run". It's been a very long time since I ran with a friend. I forgot how much fun it can be. The mileage just flies by!
I actually felt ready on race day. I'm so lucky that Bevan was able to be there with me! He was the perfect rabbit and kept me moving when I wanted to start slowing down. We did better than I thought (1:46) and was rewarded with donuts, cookies, and chocolate milk and got home before 9am. I love these local races!

We are the American Society of Landscape Architects. Please take us seriously!
Once a year I get to skip work on a
Friday for the ASLA conference and get CE credits to renew my
license. It was also nice to wear my poor, neglected clogs. I love hanging out with old friends from USU and my
internship. They all design big, important spaces in big cities with
big budgets. Even though I’m licensed to do big things like that…
I kinda like what I do. I found myself talking up how I love being a
mom and also being fortunate to have a seasonal job, which gives me
time to be home with my kids. I love how varied my work is:
estimates, flower planting, sprinkler repairs, I even mowed a lawn
the other day! Sure, design work is fun and all… but when you see
a design that actually works and looks good year after year... that’s
where I get the most satisfaction. The award winners during the
lunch banquet were all newly-built parks. I don’t think any
landscape should be eligible for awards until it’s been in for at
least 5 years, especially in Park City. The conference was here this
year, so that was nice and convenient. Our Saturday morning segment
included a bike ride to the Swaner Center in Kimball Junction via
their amazing trail system. CE credits for a bike ride? What a
deal! I surely didn’t want to ride my bike all the way back to
Prospector, so I took the free city bus. I love this town!
