We haven’t been to Goblin Valley since Dallin was a baby, so we figured we were due! It was a great way to spend Mother’s Day weekend. The most fun part is pulling into camp after dark, going to bed, and waking up to an alien landscape! The kids were in heaven. We brought bikes, sand diggers/ dozers/ dump trucks, hats, and lots of sunscreen.
On Saturday morning, we headed out to Little Wild Horse Canyon and did a couple miles. We couldn’t do the entire 9 mile loop, but just stuck to the closest, craziest slot canyons. It was pretty fun! We headed back to camp for lunch and down time. Bevan went to explore the single-track bike trails and I just chilled and watched the boys play with neighbor kids. They make friends everywhere they go. After a few hours though, I got a little antsy to go visit the goblins. That was really fun too! I forgot how HOT it can get in those valleys. We left when we ran out of water. After dinner, Bevan and I went on a run to Goblin’s Lair. I’ve always wanted to see it, but it’s not a hike for little kids. Luckily, our neighbors gladly offered to keep an eye on our kids for an hour and even invited them over to their campfire for s’mores. What nice camping neighbors. Goblin’s Lair did not disappoint! How fun would it be to rappel from the top?! Such a crazy place. When we got back to camp, the weather started shifting. I was really mad because the weather was supposed to be great, and now this?! The kids retreated to the car when the lightening and thunder started. Bevan and I made our own s’mores in the thunderstorm, under our pavilion of course! Once it died down, we were able to get the kids to sleep in the tent. Then it proceeded to rain for half the night! Sheesh!
Sunday morning was partly cloudy with rain now and then. We caught a break and packed up camp pretty quick. Now, everything is drying out on the trampoline at home. Thank you, Goblin Valley! We’ll be back when monsoon season is over.
