The boy is 9 months!

I can't believe how fast Dallin is growing!  Of course, his torso is growing faster than his legs!  He's turning into a pretty good sleeper, as long as he doesn't wiggle out of his blankets.  He still prefers milk before he goes to bed AND first thing in the morning.  Such a baby!  His blond hair is starting to thicken up, though we can tell it's going to be a while before he needs a cut.  His favorite food is Gerber Puffs and seems to shove them in at an astonishing rate!  He has 8 teeth with the 2 front ones looking bigger than the rest!  Oh, no!  He is fascinated with all things cords and anything that Anna is doing.  He still army-crawls, though he switches his knees more and more.  I do feel bad for his poor noggin'.  Seems like there's always a bump or a bruise on it.  His head is so large, it's naturally drawn to everything!  Walls, tables, chairs, anything that's hard, etc!  One more thing is that the boy will NOT hold still!  He is always going going going!  Changing his diaper is like trying to wrestle a puppy.  Don't get me started about church!  He still has... let's see here... another 9 MONTHS before he can go to nursery.  Oh, boy, we're in for a ride!

Is there any good reason to teach a toddler to ski?!

February 24, 2014
We promised Anna that as soon as she was potty-trained we would take her skiing... for real!  Not just in the backpack.  I took her to get a picture taken for her pass, then we borrowed some toddler ski gear (thanks Kristine!), and headed for the gondola.  Bevan carried her down the blue run to the magic carpet learning area.  Along with the boots and skis, we borrowed this strange harness/ leash thingy!  It has a handle on back and straps around her chest.  As long as she stood up on her own, we could use the leash to turn her and make her stop.  Brilliant.  It was fun.  We took a lot of pictures.  We did a lot of "snow plowing".  After 3 hours, I was wondering how much progress we really made!

I've seen a lot of toddlers on skis over the years.  The youngest I've seen was 19 months!  I don't know how much of this we'll do in the near future.  I'm thinking a better age to learn how to ski is maybe 5.  Of course, there ARE kids out there who DO pick it up fast and love it!... just not Anna.  She's so young!  Is any of this sinking in?  We could be at this stage for months (leash-bound) whereas if we just waited a few years, she'd pick it up a lot faster and we'd all have more fun!  Am I just being selfish?  Of course I want to spend time together as a family, but as long as I have other options (generous grandparents who are willing to watch them for a few hours) maybe we'll just keep Monday morning our skiing date night.  Any opinions out there?  Anyway, here are a few of my favorite Anna shots!

Sweet Valentine's!

Feburary 14-15, 2014
I love the timing of Valentine's Day, smack dab in the middle of the February blahs!  Whoever that guy was, that decided to have a holiday of love in the middle of the most depressing month, is a genius!  Bevan usually gets me flowers and I plan a romantic night in the valley.  This time our babysitter had to get home early, so our trip turned into a quick jont to Tarahumara.  Amazingly, there were more out-of-towners in line than locals!  I never knew this place was so famous!  It's the epic salsa bar.  Keeps 'em coming back for more!

The next day, Saturday, was moving day for Nora and James.  I'm sure they were glad to finally be out of the cabin.  Don't get me wrong, the cabin is a wonderful place... to visit.  Living there in the winter can be a little isolating.  The mind starts playing tricks, and the funny sounds that come out when it's REALLY quiet, and the were-rabbits and their glowing red eyes.  I'm speaking from experience here!  Anyway, their new house is really nice.  They have neighbors and sidewalks and a paved driveway.  All those things you take for granted!  I can't wait for the all the family parties that will be taking place there!

An Epic Super Bowl

February 1-3, 2014
One of our favorite annual traditions is to travel to Pocatello that first weekend in February.  We all know why... for some quality time with our favorite Idaho cousins!  ... and a superbowl featuring the Denver Broncos, which is Bevan's all-time-favorite team EVER!  We all know how the game turned out, those are minor details.  We had so much fun and can't get enough of this tradition!

First off, Vanessa's food is always amazing!  Even though we rolled into town way behind schedule Saturday night, she still made us a fabulous white chili and rolls.  So good!  The next day, for the gathering, she went all out!  I've never seen so much food for so few people.  It was both our families and Ramsey.  I forgot his real name, but everyone just calls him "Ramsey" because he's so fun to watch football with.  2 pizzas, bread sticks, 3 dips, 5 desserts, hot wings, chips, popcorn, and maybe even a veggie tray.  Wow!

I couldn't overdo it because I agreed to venture out with her Pocatello running posse the next morning.

What a great run!  I forgot how fun it is to actually run with other adults and not alone, pushing two kids.  I felt so free!  We did the rolling back hills of Pocatello.  She has some great friends.  They meet every Monday and Saturday (early) morning as a huge group.  I felt so honored to be among boston-qualifiers and marathon-winners and all of them with several kids apiece!   They were so nice and took it easy on me. I admit I was a little out of my league but I didn't quit!  I was seriously looking forward to our visit to Lava Hot Springs on our way out of town.

What a great place, that Lava!  It was slightly less awkward than last year when both Vanessa and I were hobbling into the pools on crutches.  What a sight we were!  Dallin couldn't get enough of the giant bathtubs where he could splash and splash.  Anna was cautious, of course.  She preferred to be sitting or standing on something the whole time.  I should've stretched out a little, before spending the next 3 hours in the car.  I got really stiff!  That long run was starting to catch up to me!  We dropped by American Fork on the way home to wish Bevan's parents a safe journey as they embark on a 2-month-long road trip down south.  I was close to just jumping in with them... if I could even jump at that point!  What a great way to spend the rest of February!
